Ah, Wednesday!

The week is halfway over already! Yay! I hate to wish the week away, but I am so ready for the Christmas holiday!! It's always good to have a few days to recharge from work, you know? There are several movies I want to go see (27 dresses, The Golden Compass, just to name a few) and lots of knits I want to get to work on. During the week, I get home so late, then have chores, dinner, perhaps a workout, and then it's time for sleep, so my knitting time is limited. Usually I knit on my lunch break, but I've been out a couple times this week and that leaves no time for the Rat Race scarf. But don't worry folks, I'll get back to it tonight!!

Since the tv writer's strike, I've been branching out and trying new things...for one, Notes from the Underbelly! So cute! And so funny! I saw babies today and I was completely overcome with baby fever...one of the hardest parts about not being married is knowing that babies (at least babies with a husband) are further away than expected. I was soooo ready to be a mama too, but I'm sure that God has a plan for me that will make me appreciate the wait.

Anyway, on a lighter note, Wally said to tell everyone that he is very anti-blanket this week. I tried to put a nice, warm, old comforter in his house, but alas...no foreign objects in the Dogloo! It's not yet in shreds and I haven't given up. I figure if I put it in there enough times, maybe he'll eventually get used to it. Hopefully!

The Longest Week

This week just feels like it's lasted forever, and not in a good way. Maybe it's a combination of being indoors working when the weather has been spectacularly warm, maybe it's pre-holiday burnout, or maybe just a lack of sleep, but I am beat and ready for the weekend! I'm so worn out tonight I couldn't even work up the energy to knit...sad, I know! Especially when my mom's Rat Race scarf is so close to being finished! Only about 3.5 rats left to go, and they'll knit up quick when I get the time and energy.

Mini wants to know where the rats are...he's practicing his stalking techniques...

With the writers' strike and my general TV apathy this week, I've started reading Atonement by Ian McEwan. I'm dying to see the movie, but it's just not playing around here, so the book's the next best thing. I'm only a couple of chapters in, but so far, it's intriguing. Unusual, very visually evocative, and well-written, but not what I expected. I'll let you know what I think when I finish.

I did get some knitting done though...I finally finished my Knit Unto Others hat! Yay! I took some quicky pics at work, then sent it off with one of the lovely admin ladies at work to contribute to her church's winter clothing drive. I hope the bright Manos del Uruguay brings some much needed warmth and joy to a special person out there! Check out the completed work!

Yes, my lovely office has a fantastic vista of a giant air exchange fan and heated pigeon races. Sometimes I catch myself cheering for one pidgie or the other, chanting to myself "Go Pidge, go!!" Unfortunately, others in my office don't quite understand how fascinating pigeons can be...or maybe I'm just a crazy pigeon-watching nut. In order to discourage Pigeon Derbies, the maintenance people have strategically placed fake owls glaring menacingly down at the pigeons...who summarily ignore them and continue their quest for gold.

No fear for the pidgies! Maybe we could all learn something...or perhaps I could just be less bored at work occasionally.

The holidays!

Oh, how I love the holidays! I love the happy twinkling lights, the chill in the air (although it was 80 degrees here in Raleigh today), the yummy baking smells, and especially, buying presents!! I remember as a little kid, I used to love to sleep under the tree, bathed in the warm glow of twinkly lights and the aroma of balsam and fir...ah, the holidays!

It's also a time to be thankful for the blessings in my life. Even though this year has undoubtedly been the most difficult of my adult life, I'm lucky to have a second chance to find love and not to have to spend the rest of my life with someone who doesn't treat me like I deserve. It's not that I hate my ex, or wish him bad things (not too many anyway)...it's just that I've finally given up on the fantasy of what could have been. I spent so long thinking that even though he left, that he was still the one and that I'd never find anyone else. Several long, hard, soul searching months later, I've finally realized that there are other opportunities out there, other guys, other houses, and other lives.

Seeing as how this is a knitting blog, I'll have to admit...I haven't had much time to knit lately. What with my exam review, my pup, and work, things have been a bit hectic. I'm still working on my hat for Knit Unto Others and have several other things in the queue. After I finish my present wrapping, I should have plenty of time to catch up on the knitting this weekend! Yay!
